Collection 18: U.S. Student Newspapers (articles mentioning “science(s)”)

This is a collection of word-frequency and other data representing 81,445 unique articles mentioning “science” or “sciences” from the UWire news service. Articles were published in 2000-2018 in 601 university and college student newspapers, mainly from the United States. There is a noticeable spike up in the number of articles mentioning "science(s) between 2017 and 2018 from 8,116 to 14162. WE1S and other researchers can use this data to look for broad patterns and guide closer study.

The top 20 student newspapers with the most articles mentioning “science(s)” (in descending order) in Collection 18 are from the following institutions: Stanford U., UCLA, Marquette U., UC Davis, U. Wisconsin Madison, UC Berkeley, Cornell U., Harvard U., U. Nebraska--Lincoln, U. Houston, Brigham Young U., U. Colorado--Boulder, Boston U., U. Texas--Austin, Vanderbilt U., Princeton U., Carnegie Mellon U., James Madison U., U. Arizona, U. Alabama. (The Stanford Daily ranks disproportionately high in number of articles in this collection (2,823), compared with other total article numbers by source in the top twenty in the collection approximately from 656 to 1,801.)
